moreBoulder Beer will be hosting our second annual Innovation Celebration on Saturday, May 18 to cap off our American Craft Beer Week festivities. What's that, you ask? You may have heard of a "Tap Takeover." Well, we decided to do one...at OUR OWN BAR! We're removing the regular lineup of our usual great beers and replacing all 12 taps and the beer engine with one-of-a-kind, small batch brews from our pilot system.
Back in 1979 when Boulder Beer was founded, our Boulder Porter, Stout and ESB were considered extreme, revolutionary and innovative. We continue that tradition of innovation today and celebrate our brewers creativity -- and the more than 2,000 craft breweries that have opened since.
The beers we'll be featuring are the latest from the creative talents of our brewing staff, but they're small batches - only 40 pints of each -- and when they're gone, they're gone. GET EARLY ACCESS TO THESE RARE BEERS AT 11am, A FULL HOUR BEFORE WE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! VIP tickets are available at our bar, and get you SIXTEEN 4 oz samples. Only 50 VIP tickets are available, so call or come in today!

moreAt Boulder Beer we like to make things easy. That's why all of our beer is coded with an “enjoy by” date.*
On the glass shoulder of each Boulder Beer bottle is the enjoy by date printed in bright yellow ink. The case boxes are also coded with the enjoy by date, although it just lists the pull date. That’s located on one of the longer sides near the bottom. Most of our beers are coded for 105 days after the packaging. Mojo Risin’ – our double IPA – is coded for six months after the beer goes into the bottle.
Why do we choose to do it this way instead of the “born on” date? Most importantly, we want you, the consumer, to drink beer we’re proud of, and fresh beer tastes the best! Here at Boulder Beer, we have a distribution and brewing system that we’ve honed over the years to get the freshest possible beer onto the shelf. All of our beer is Made To Order.
How does that work? Our distributors project how much beer they’re going to sell within their ordering cycle. Then, when our distributors order beer, they get a ship-date that’s about three weeks out, which is about how much time it takes to brew and package beer. Our Brewmaster combines all the orders from all of our distributors of the wide varieties of brands we produce, and that’s what and how much we brew that week. Three weeks later or so, the beer gets packaged in the amount ordered (a variety of flavors in a variety of bottles, kegs, & cans). It goes into our big cooler, out onto a truck and right to a distributor within a week or two.

Boulder Beer Co. Releases Collaboration Brew with Knee Deep Brewing Co.
Boulder Beer Company, Colorado’s First Microbrewery, gets knee deep in craft beer with their friends in California. More than Ricky Bobby's catchphrase in Talledaga Nights, Shakenbake is the name of the golden colored Rye India Pale Ale draft only collaboration brew created by Knee Deep Brewing Company and Boulder Beer Company.
Shakenbake was brewed at Boulder Beer Company, with the assistance of Knee Deep’s Brewmaster Jeremy Warren, exclusively for the Sacramento and San Francisco Beer Weeks and will be tapped at the opening gala in San Francisco on Friday, February 8th.
“We are excited to be working with such an innovative, up and coming brewery,” said Boulder Beer Brewmaster David Zuckerman. “We have a personal connection and a mutual respect for each other and the art of craft beer.”
Brewed with ingredients from both states, Shakenbake features the California-grown hops Ivanhoe, Gargoyle and Chinook. The Pale Malt used was grown in Colorado and malted at the artisan Colorado Malting Company located in Alamosa, Colorado. Northwest Amarillos round out the hops, providing a bright, citrusy nose. A variety of other quality malts and rye impart a golden color, slight spiciness and a dry finish, accentuating the hops.

Boulder Beer Company has released a new limited-edition offering called A Honey of a Saison, brewed with large amounts of Wildflower Honey sourced from Madhava Natural Sweeteners in Longmont, CO.
A Honey of a Saison is a swarm of flavor and a stinger at 11.5% ABV. The French Saison yeast produces big, estery, phenolic aromas and flavors, while the Wildflower Honey lends a spicy, sweet aroma with essence of dried fruits. Champagne Yeast is also used to complete fermentation and create a dry finish. A strong malt bill imparts a rich, golden honey color to the ale, and it shows low hop bitterness at 25 IBU’s.
“Think of A Honey of a Saison as a fresh alternative to your typical winter warmer,” said Tess McFadden, Marketing Director for Boulder Beer Company.
A Honey of a Saison will be available in select markets where Boulder Beer is sold in 22-ounce bottles and draft. The bottles do not show any pull-date, only the year it was packaged, as this high-gravity ale will lend itself very well to cellaring.

“A Honey of a Saison”
Exciting week here at Boulder Beer Company. Today marks the first full-scale, 50-barrel batch of our newest beer, A Honey of a Saison! That's 660-pounds of Rocky Mountain wildflower honey, almost ready to be added to the boil after being bathed in large troughs of hot water for a more pouring-friendly viscosity. Can you imagine trying to scoop all those buckets of thick room temperature honey into the brew kettle?!
For those of you that were lucky enough to attend the GABF and swing by our booth this year, we had a small batch pilot version of this beer on tap. Thanks for all the positive feedback - it was clearly the most sought-after brew at our booth this year.
Look for "A Honey of a Saison" on tap and in 22oz. bombers starting mid-December. We know saisons are typically spring and summertime brews, so if you feel like holding on to yours until we see some springtime sun, don't fret - this beer's going to hold up just fine through summer (oops - guess we forgot to tell you earlier that it clocks in at an 11% ABV - yep!)
moreObovoid Oak-Aged Oatmeal Stout is back on tap in the pub this Friday, October 26th! Join us for the Roll-Out Party from 4-7pm. We'll have $3.25 pints of Nitro Obovoid, a prize raffle for free beer and sand the return of the Obovoid Egg Relay. Winning team takes home a keg (gift certificate) or 3 cases of beer!
A little more info on this awesome brew ---
Released annually in November – draft only. Obovoid: 1) An ovoid with the broad end toward the apex; 2) a fun word to say! Something tells us that you’re going to love Obovoid oak-aged oatmeal stout. Perhaps it’s the color – as dark as deep space. Or the aging on oak that adds an earthy character to its roasted notes. Maybe you crave the bitter-sweet chocolate finish derived from the abundance of black and chocolate malts. Or quite possibly the rich, smooth mouthfeel and creamy, off-white head tickle your fancy. But most likely, it’s the perfect blend of “all of the above” that makes Obovoid a stout-lover’s dream.
Join us at the brewery for Boulder's most fun and laid-back team trivia competition! 7pm Wednesdays starting November 7th. Nightly winners take home a case of beer or $25 off their tab - and cumulative, season-end winners take home a KEG, plus $250 in gift certificates to Boulder Beer Pub.
moreStop by Boulder Beer Monday-Saturday at 2pm for Boulder's BEST Tour (you heard us, Celestial Seasonings, we're throwing it down!). We also have an additional tour Saturdays at 4pm for those wanting to start their fun a little bit later. Please come at least 15 minutes early to sign up and grab a pint!
The tour is truly a behind-the-scenes look at the hand-crafted brewing process behind Colorado's First Microbrewery. No reservations required or taken; first come, first served. (The maximum capacity for tours is 30 people.) Stop in early for a bite to eat and get your name on the list!
Oh, and did we mention, the tour is completely FREE - and includes a full sampling of everything we've got on tap. Hmm, maybe you should check out a Boulder B-Cycle for getting here... :)

NEVER SUMMER ALE is back! Look for our award-winning winter seasonal on shelves and on draft nationwide now.
Our cold weather seasonal - a strong red ale that’s brewed with dark caramel malt for a deep ruby red color and roasted toffee-like sweetness, then assertively hopped for the perfectly smooth and balanced finish,
Never Summer makes even the coldest Colorado peaks seem warm, and is the absolute perfect beer after a long day of skiing or snowboarding. But, since we've yet to see much snow, we see no problem with bringing home a 6-pack on these 70-degree October days either. Cheers!
moreWelcome to the Brewer's Choice Tap - small-batch brews concocted in our 50-gallon pilot system, only on tap at the brewery. At Boulder Beer Company, we have a History of Innovation since the first days in The Goatshed in 1979. We’ve always got something new brewing and on tap in our pub!
Even our best-selling beer today, Hazed & Infused Dry-Hopped Ale, started off as a pilot brew in our pub way back in 2001. Our pub regulars devoured the first batch, and instantly demanded more. Now, 11 years later, Hazed is our most popular product and a seemingly household name with beers lovers across the country.
Nowadays, our brewers develop all of their recipes in our pilot system, so check back often to see what we've got on tap. You never know when you might stumble upon the next beer beer - don't you want to be the first to get a taste?!
Click here to see what we've got on the Brewer's Choice tap today!
